The Winter Weather Advisory was recently extended to include all of Montgomery County.
Light to moderate accumulations of wintry precipitation could make sidewalks and roads icy.
Loudoun County, our neighbor to the west, has already announced a delay for tomorrow.
Below you’ll see the futurecast, courtesy of ABC7 and Bill Kelly, which shows what things could look like at midnight, 4am, 7am, and 9am.
As you can see, it’s almost entirely rain by 7am (except for the Damascus area) and then all rain for MoCo by 9am.
Temps will hover around the freezing mark overnight. A degree or two colder and we can see a little more ice, but a degree or two warmer and we could see more rain than anything.
Based on the latest guidance, it seems like there will be some ice in our area that’ll make for conditions similar to this morning. By 9, the rain should be clearing out any ice that might be sticking around.
I suspect main roads will just be wet, but a delay could be the best bet to avoid any icy sidewalks and side roads earlier in the morning.
Fox 5’s Mike Thomas gives this one 2.5 Pencils. He sees it as a similar situation to yesterday.
Official MoCoSnow Prediction: 2 Pencils (maybe a bit more, but not quite enough to make it 3 right now)
Due to the Advisory now covering all of MoCo and the potential of some morning ice, I think the most likely scenario is a delay with a re-evaluation (re-evaluation occurs even if it’s not mentioned on the MCPS website).
Make sure to check out the free MoCoSnow iOS app, as it will be updated accordingly with specific percentages for delays and closures.
