The Winter Weather Advisory was recently extended to include all of Montgomery County.

Light to moderate accumulations of wintry precipitation could make sidewalks and roads icy.

Loudoun County, our neighbor to the west, has already announced a delay for tomorrow.

Below you’ll see the futurecast, courtesy of ABC7 and Bill Kelly, which shows what things could look like at midnight, 4am, 7am, and 9am.

As you can see, it’s almost entirely rain by 7am (except for the Damascus area) and then all rain for MoCo by 9am.

Temps will hover around the freezing mark overnight. A degree or two colder and we can see a little more ice, but a degree or two warmer and we could see more rain than anything.

Based on the latest guidance, it seems like there will be some ice in our area that’ll make for conditions similar to this morning. By 9, the rain should be clearing out any ice that might be sticking around.

I suspect main roads will just be wet, but a delay could be the best bet to avoid any icy sidewalks and side roads earlier in the morning.

Fox 5’s Mike Thomas gives this one 2.5 Pencils. He sees it as a similar situation to yesterday.

Official MoCoSnow Prediction: 2 Pencils (maybe a bit more, but not quite enough to make it 3 right now)

Due to the Advisory now covering all of MoCo and the potential of some morning ice, I think the most likely scenario is a delay with a re-evaluation (re-evaluation occurs even if it’s not mentioned on the MCPS website).

Make sure to check out the free MoCoSnow iOS app, as it will be updated accordingly with specific percentages for delays and closures.

Hey MoCoSnow. Quick question. It was freezing rain all day today in Damascus, so why did we only have a delay? Also, why did the delay announcement not say a re-evaluation will occur, and why did none occur?

The county is always evaluating conditions, but I couldn’t tell you why it wasn’t specifically mentioned.

School probably didn’t close because they didn’t want to add days to the school year.

Why is your prediction lower than yesterday’s? I thought it’s going to be worse than last night…

What about the storm that could happen next week. Is it legitimate or one of these annoying rain with barely any ice storms?

I think it might. Plus, there’s some type of winter precipitation going on outside, I can’t tell if it is flurries or sleet. This looks like it might be worse

Off topic question but do you feel as if not enough snow days are built in? A couple years ago we had 5 I think and it seemed that MCPS was more easy going with the calling than they are now. Does the change in superintendent also have to do with snow days or not?

Governor Hogan made schools start after Labor Day and end before June 15th so MCPS couldn’t build in any more

Do you think part of moco will get a winter storm warning (like Damascus and Clarksburg) and if so, will it affect I our chances of getting a full day off.
