Today was our third snow day, which means the school year will now be extended until June 14, 2019.
Other dates in 2019 identified as possible make-up instructional days, for any future snow days, include: April 17, April 18, and June 5.
Spring Break remains untouched for now.
The snow squall that came through this afternoon brought heavy snow and winds that gave many a quick coating, but that’s not going to be the story tomorrow.
The Wind Chill Advisory starts at 9pm tonight and runs until 10am tomorrow.
Temperatures will drop into the low single digits overnight in the county. Wind chills or RealFeel temps will be in the negative teens!!!
The last two times we had similar temps/wind chills (2018 and 2015), MCPS called for a delay the evening before. In 2015 then-MCPS PIO Dana Tofig stated there wouldn’t be much of a difference from 7am-9am in a WMAL interview, but the county still ended up delaying just hours after it was said.
We know it’s all about safety, but I’m sure the fact that we’ve had 1.5 days off for 2 inches of snow is in the back of the decision maker’s minds.
On the other side of things, we might have a few slick spots left over and we’re adding the brutal cold. Two hours may not do much, but it lets the sun come up and that helps a bit.
Official Prediction for Thursday, 1/31:
Based on similar situations in the past, I don’t think a day off is likely…but it’s not impossible. If history repeats itself, we’ll have a delay.
As always, the free MoCoSnow iOS apps will have specific percentages and will be updated as any info that may sway my opinion comes in.
