A Winter Storm Warning will be in effect from 4pm today until 1pm Sunday afternoon with 3-6 inches of snow expected for our area.

It’s one of the rare cases the Warning has been issued for C/SE MoCo rather than NW MoCo, which is still under a Winter Weather Advisory with 3-5 inches expected…not much of a difference.

The image below, from the NWS, shows a 1-3pm start for the western half of the county and a 3-5pm start for the eastern half. The heavier stuff should begin wrapping up around noon on Sunday, but light snow should linger later into the day.

All week we’ve seen changes to this forecast, but as you can see below almost all forecasts are settling near the 3-6″ range.

Monday will remain below freezing until late morning so I do see delays/closings to start the week, especially if we get to the higher end of the ranges. The first official Pencil Prediction will come out on Sunday morning, but we have some early numbers on the iOS MoCoSnow app!

I live in the borderline between the Advisory and Warning. Do you think they will expand, because Rockville and Germantown are getting about the same amount of expected snow, although one is in a warning while the other is in an advisory. Do you think they will expand?

They might, but there’s only an inch difference in the range so I wouldn’t worry about it even if it doesn’t expand.

Hold on. If you get a message saying Winter Storm Warning, do the messaged take in the factor of where you live. Say you live in Damascus, would you get the message?

Nope, they get sent out to the whole county even if it doesn’t cover all of it.

Hi! My sister is flying back to college to Atlanta. She is flying out of Reagan National tomorrow morning. Will this have an effect?

It definitely could. The later in the morning, the better for your sister.

      Weather.gov > Baltimore/Washington >

Then look at the “Other Snow/Ice Information” tab.

Hello! Do you think they should expand the warning now? I’m suprised how the models jumped so quickly. I’m excited! Tell me what you think about expanding the warnings?

I just saw on Weather Channel that parts of the district are now expected to get more like 5-7 inches. And NWS puts us as well as the city in the 6-8 range. Is that likely to happen? Or are we too far north?

The NWS wouldn’t say it if they didn’t think it was likely
